Sruti: It is very popular that All the Darsanas or the Indian Philosophical domains are
categorised into two sections; one is the astika darsanas and the other is the Nastika
darsanas.
All the domains which agree to the pramanya or authority of veda-s come under
the classification of astika darsanas and the darsanas which do not agree with the authority
of Veda is classified under Naastika darsana-s. Samkhya, Yoga, Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Purva
Mimamsa and Uttara-mimamsa are considered very important among the astika darsanas,
usually referred as saddarsana-s. Charvaka, Baudha and Jaina are the Nastika Darsanas.
One of the main sources of all the Darshanic thoughts or philosophical thoughts of all these
darsana-s is Sruti i.e. the Vedas itself.
Upanishads which are a part of the Veda itself put
forth the Vedantic philosophy and the rest of the Vedas are the source for the philosophical
thoughts which are agreed in the domain of Purva Mimamsa. Even the Naiyayikas,
Vaisheshikas, Samkhya-s and Yogins have drawn their Inspiration from the Vedas to
formulate their theories even though there are fundamental disagreements between these
domains. It is very interesting to know that some of the very important concepts of Naastika
darsanas are also expounded across the Upanishads. Of course, it is not expounded
because the Vedic scriptures agree with their position but it is expounded for the purpose of
refutation. So Vedas are one of the Primary sources of almost all the ancient Indic
philosophical thoughts.
